Shopping Carts Guide
This is the first of a collection of buying guides for folks like us—
Tiny businesses who want to do fabulous work and need to spend wisely.
In this Guide I’ll do some deep-digging research to suss out affordable, flexible, customizable shopping carts with lots of nifty features. There are way too many shopping carts out there for me to study them all, but I’ll compare 12 shopping carts we all know, love, and hate.
This kind of research means I’ll be developing expertise on-the-fly, but it doesn’t mean I’ll know it all and it won’t make me the expert. But it will give me plenty of room to write about what I’ve read and what I’ve tried, what I think rocks and what I think sucks.
It’s tricky business, choosing a shopping cart. They’re critical to selling stuff online, but there’s no “best” or “perfect” cart—just the one that’s right for you (or your client). That’s why the Guide isn’t just a comparison grid…it also includes a Crappy Cart Questionnaire for an objective look at the cart you’re using right now, a Shopping Cart Wishlist of nifty features that may surprise you, and a checklist for doing more research on your own.
Of course, new shopping carts and cart features will come out after the Guide is published, but that’s okay. I’ll publish updates as I can and send them along.
