BBB Radio: MP3 recordings of 8 popular posts

**formerly Pep Talk Pack #1

Sometimes, and for some people, reading doesn’t cut it.

Hard to believe, if you’re a card-carrying bookworm like me. But as many folks (including me!) have discovered, listening to a story can be as enjoyable as turning pages. And a heckuvalot more likely to happen.

I mean, if I’m sitting down I’m either working or eating or watching retro cop dramas on Netflix with my hubby. Even as a bookworm, I’m not itching to look at words on a page after a workday filled with reading and writing.

It’s my Busy Hands/Idle Mind time that’s primed for listening and learning. Is it the same for you?

Doing laundry, washing dishes, tidying up, and long drives are when I listen to what I would normally read…things that make me laugh, give me pause, or spark my imagination.

With that in mind, I picked a handful of popular reads from the Big Bright Bulb archive to narrate for you. My hope is they’ll bring to you what my Listens bring to me: giggles, musing, and the pinging *ding* of a new idea.

Here’s what’s included

Eight unabridged recordings of popular Big Bright Bulb posts in MP3 format for listening to on whatever holds your music: iPod, iTouch, MP3 player, smartphone, iPhone, tablet, iPad, or computer.

And yup, it’s really my voice telling (not reading) you stories as they were originally written—more or less. I gab a bit in the beginning and sometimes at the end. Like the written versions, I cuss a little. I giggle, too.

Here’s a sampleNaked as the Day (5:29)

And here are your 8 Listens, what they’re about, and what they’re good for—

Track 1:
Data. Knowledge. Power. Truth
(7:01)
I believe the life you want is out there for you to claim. Here’s a list of what I want for you, what my job is (and what it isn’t), who my superpowers are for (hint: they ain’t for me), and how those things came to be.

GOOD FOR: A jumpstart on thinking about your work and the beliefs that come from it and live through it.

Track 2:
Remember Who You Will Be
(4:41)
Some events aren’t life-changing, they are life-stopping. And their awful story plays again and again in us. And with us. And through us. I’ve got some good news and, fortunately, no bad news.

GOOD FOR: When you need a gentle reminder that we can live beyond hurtful things that happen.

Track 3:
Naked as the Day
(5:29)
True story: I used to be a nude model for art students. That was 20 years and 60 pounds ago, but the lessons in (literally!) baring myself to my colleagues carry on.

GOOD FOR: When you need a loving kick-in-the-pants to get past the vulnerability of releasing your work into the wild.

Track 4:
You’re Not Lazy (And Neither Am I)
(5:16)
I vote there’s no such thing as a lazy person. But a host of other things can prevent you from being excited about your work. I’ve listed 21 of them plus 14 ways I recover my verve.

GOOD FOR: When you’re beating yourself up a lot for doing not much. See what resonates from my lists and then make your own.

Track 5:
Learning (and Earning) By Example
(7:20)
There’s nothing wrong with imitating the great masters of your craft, and a lot right. That’s where many art students begin. But don’t stop there. Whatever your craft, both you and the world will benefit from your unique spin on it.

GOOD FOR: When you’re tempted to follow the gurus to the letter. This can help you get back on track…*your* track.

Track 6:
What’re You Willing to Do?
(8:10)
For many projects, the path from start to finish is paved with friction…people, events, and your attitudes can trip you up, slow you down, or bring you to a halt. But some projects are bathed in butter. The difference is knowing what you’re willing to do.

GOOD FOR: When you need a reminder to get clear on what you will and won’t do for what you want.

Track 7:
Go Get Your Money
(5:30)
Business is risky, for sure. But it’s also filled with opportunities that have our name on them. We just need to get out the door and go pick them up.

GOOD FOR: When you need a reminder that there’s zero point in waiting for money to come to you.

Track 8:
K.I.S.S.~ Keep It Simple. Seriously.
(5:11)
The simplest recipes can yield the most exceptional things: bread, burgers, and business. Complex process tend to get more complicated over time, so it’s best to start, and stay, simple.

GOOD FOR: When you’re tempted to add more, create more, and do more to earn more.

And here’s that sample again in case you missed it: Naked as the Day (5:10)

About those 3 additional posts: They sounded meh read aloud (which is why they’re not paired with recordings) but they’re pretty darned good when read in your head—

The PDF also includes 2 new articles written just for this bundle that haven’t been (and won’t be) published online—

  • Why I (Must) Knit
A bit of a rant on how nifty (and important) it is to have something in hand to show for our effort…not just this digitalish, virtualous, cloud-ery stuff.
  • Working For Through the Weekend
Quick case studies, links, and 8 tips for pushing a project through in 48 hours or less. This bundle of recordings and the accompanying PDF is its own example: assembling it took me 26 hours from start-to-finish.
